Prevent a wok message on your motorcycle

We increasingly hear that motorcyclists are being fined because their exhaust is not approved or produces too much noise. Sometimes this even leads to a WOK message. In this blog we inform you about the permitted noise levels and show the many options that we at Motorlook.nl can offer, for example with a decibel killer.

This blog is about use in the Netherlands. Are you going abroad? Then make sure that you are always within the correct limits and preferably have the correct quality marks on the exhaust to prevent problems.

Is your exhaust approved for public roads?

In Europe, a quality mark is used. The quality mark is not specifically aimed at noise levels (mainly emissions), but noise levels are included in the standard, meaning that an approved exhaust meets the correct levels. You can then drive with the exhaust almost anywhere in Europe.

When a motorcycle is delivered new in the Netherlands, it is always equipped with an approved exhaust. Do you have a second-hand motorcycle with an original exhaust? Then you can assume that it meets the requirements and you do not have to worry about too many dBs.

Do you have an exhaust from a different brand than the original (for example SC-Project, Shark, Takkoni or Zard)? Then look for more information about the exhaust and see whether it has a quality mark. You can find this on the exhaust itself (stamp) or on the website of the exhaust brand. Almost all approved exhausts are equipped with a removable decibel killer (with the exception of EURO4 & EURO5 approved exhausts). In this case, the exhaust is not approved without a decibel killer.

Do you have a motorcycle with an approved exhaust, but do you see that no decibel killer is installed? Do you feel like the sound is too loud? Then the exhaust is usually not permitted on public roads (without a db killer).

Not approved, what now?

We are specialists in universal decibel killers and muffler wool that makes the exhaust quieter. The police in the Netherlands will mainly stop you if you stand out in traffic. If you have the dBs in order, you don't have to worry about being stopped.

Another option is to purchase a new and approved exhaust. A larger investment, but for many engines an approved exhaust is cheaper than the fine (€280-€420), especially if this leads to a WOK report. Our approved exhausts not only meet legal requirements. The sound of the engine is also much nicer and the engine looks sportier.
